Centuries after the so-called slave trade, Islamic State (ISIS) militants in Iraq have shocked the world with a price list making rounds secretly in the conflict-ridden Arab nation, where girls are commanding a price tag of $130 to 150 while aged women in their 40s and 50s, are being sold for less than $50.
These slaves are not Sunni Muslims, who form the majority of Iraq but the minority Yazidi and Christian girls, whom the ISIS has described as spoils of war, reported Iraqi News.
In a pamphlet dated October 16 and being circulated in Arabic described the community, age and the price in dinars. The document belows reads: “The market to sell women and spoils of war has been experiencing a significant decrease, which has adversely affected ISIS revenue and financing of the Mujahideen.”
ISIS has listed the price tags as follows:
A (Yazidi or Christian) woman, aged 40 to 50 years, is for 50,000 dinars ($43).
The rate of a (Yazidi or Christian) woman, aged 30 to 40 years, is 75,000 dinars ($75).
The rate for a (Yazidi or Christian) woman, aged 20 to 30 years, is 100,000 dinars ($86).
A (Yazidi or Christian) girl, aged 10 to 20 years, is for 150,000 dinars ($130).
A (Yazidi or Christian) child’s price, aged 1 to 9 years, is 200,000 dinars ($172).”
However, the rider is that no one can purchase more the 3 spoils, except for foreigners like Turks, Syrians and Gulf Arabs.
The ISIS is reportedly running a full-fledged slave markets in Mosul, Iraq and Raqqa, justifying it citing Islamic theology. “One should remember that enslaving the families of the kuffar (infidels) and taking their women as concubines is a firmly established aspect of the Shariah, or Islamic law,” in an online magazine.
The pamphlet was secretly released online after a shocking video showed how the Islamic State (ISIS) militants were seen bargaining over Yazidi women at a “slave market” based on the eye colour of the girls and those with blue and green eyes commanding highest price.
