With two new squads in frey, the auction for 351 cricket players began today in Bangalore with the ubiquitous absence of barred Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals replaced by Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions.

The early hours of morning auction saw intense bidding for players by new franchisees with Yuvraj in focus again. Last year, he commanded maximum fee of Rs.16 crore by Delhi Daredevils. This year he may not command more than Rs.10 crore.
Each squad should have a minimum of 16 players and a maximum of 27 and the traditional franchisees have retained 13 players and need to take others in the auction. The number of foreign players in each team is confined to 9 and themaximum money each team can spend on players is capped at Rs.66 crore.
The Delhi Daredevils with Rs 37.15 crore and Sunrisers Hyderabad with Rs 30.15 crore are currently commanding the auction scene, followed by new teams which have Rs 27 crore each after they were allowed to pick five players in the December 15 round. While Mumbai Indians have retained 19 players and KKR held back its 15 players, the competition today will be more among the new franchisees.
Today’s auction has 351 players for grabs, including 130 capped players, two players from Associate nations and 219
uncapped players. In all 116 players, including a maximum of 36 overseas players are to be bought in the auction. Among Indian players, Yuvraj Singh is on top of the list followed by Ashish Nehra, Ishant Sharma, Mohit Sharma, Stuart Binny, Sanju Samson and Dinesh Karthik. Yuvraj, Ishant and Nehra are commanding a base price of Rs 2 crore in today’s auction.
Among the foreign players, Kevin Pietersen, Shane Watson, Dale Steyn, Aaron Finch, Martin Guptill and Dwayne Smith are in the marquee and about 11 players are commanding a base price of Rs 1 to Rs.2 crore, far below many Indian top players.
Apart from these, new Under-19 players like Rishabh Pant, Mahipal Lomror, Avesh Khan, Ishan Kishan and Mayank Dagar are also in the frey and the franchisees can bid for them to nurture future talent for their teams.
