Team News:

Mumbai Indians:

The Mumbai Indians, owned by the richest man in India, Mukesh Ambani, is known for its big bucks but lost two dependable players in Dinesh Karthik and Dwayne Bravo this year but was able to induct Corey Anderson, Josh Hazlewood, Ben Dunk and Mike Hussey, in all retaining 11 players from the last year’s squad.

The team has its coach John Wright and mentor Anil Kumble who are guiding the team with an eye on getting Kieron Pollard back onboard, after the Jamaican suffered a knee injury. Other players worth watching are Corey Anderson, the New Zealander with an injured finger. However, skipper Rohit Sharma, Lasith Malinga, Pollard, Harbhajan Singh and Ambati Rayudu will concentrate on their bowling skills while the batting team with Mike Hussey, Aditya Tare, Rohit and Pollard will show it on the ground. Spinner Bhajan and Prgyan Ojha should help the team this year too but team will be missing a senior batsman in Sachin Tendulkar, who retired last year.

Kolkata Knight Riders:

This year, KKR will depend on Robin Uthappa, the former India opener and skipper Gautam Gambhir to get the team off to a good start. Sunil Narine, will have to get the Kolkata Knight Riders win the title this year as he did in 2012. Yusuf Pathan was one who made some blistering knocks in the last series and need to show his mettle in 2014 to win the title and win more matches this time.

The 2014 team has not seen many changes, but spent heavily on pace bowlers and succeeded in getting Morkel, Pat Cummins, Umesh Yadav, VRV Singh and Vinay Kumar. If Jacques Kallis, the South African legend, fails to get quick initial runs, the team will come under pressure. If Gautam Gambhir too fails, then the team loses its winning streak.

Prediction: KKR may show ist grit to win the match as Mumbai Indians suffer from some absentees in the opening match.
