IPL 7Chennai Super Kings led by Skipper M.S. Dhoni, riding high on 8-win tally will take on the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday in Match 42 at the JSCA International Cricket Stadium, Ranchi at 4 pm IST.

Time: Sunday, May 18, 2014, 4 pm IST

Venue: JSCA International Cricket Stadium, Ranchi

CSK, with eight wins to their credit, have a foot in the Playoffs and today’s match will help them focus on reaching the top two teams at the end of the IPL 7 League.

RCB led by Virat Kohli took off strongly with a bang, winning their first two matches, but have since slipped to 6th position in the table and are almost out of the race for the Playoffs. They have 4 wins from 10 matches and are tied with Sunrisers Hyderabad on 8 points, but ranked low due to their unimpressive net run-rate.

RCB batsmen Yuvraj Singh and AB de Villiers played superb at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore to win over the Delhi Daredevils before their four-day break. The batting line-up and the bowling attack — both should refine in today’s match for the team to progress in the league stage now.

Chennai Super Kings, with its strong openers – Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum – is still riding high. Smith, who is second behind Glenn Maxwell in the Orange Cap standings, has consistently performed well and his only failure was in the match against Kings XI Punjab when he picked up a boundary before holing out to the point fielder. The 31-year-old, though hesitant to play the big shots, has always shown that he has the temperament to sail through difficult situations.

Mohit Sharma has been impressive with bowling throughout the season but a lot owes to the pitch in Ranchi that is good the spinners, It remains to be seen how R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Samuel Badree perform today.

On batting side, the focus will also be on Chris Gayle but on the basis of his form, all eyes will be on Yuvraj Singh and AB de Villiers, who contributed 101 runs from 46 balls in RCB’s previous match. It has been a while since Virat Kohli played impressively and passionately. If he gets into form at the batting today, he may save his team with more runs against the CSK, two-time champions. He should repeat his feat with the CSK last time when he scored 50.

In the UAE leg of IPL 2014, CSK’s seamers accounted for 21 of 32 wickets picked up by their bowlers and after their return to India, the CSK spinners have raised it accounting for 15 of the 29 wickets.

CSK may continue its winning streak at the home ground unless RCB makes the first major strokes to ride high on score side.
