It seems Apple’s upcoming big screen smartphone dubbed as iPhone 6 will come with a price tag much higher than iPhone 5s. A new report has suggested that the new device might be costlier than its predecessor by more than $200.
Apple Inc. is expected to unveil its flagship smartphone iPhone 6 on 9 September before releasing it into the market a few days later. It is reportedly launching two models of iPhone 6, one with a 4.7-inch screen and other with 5.5-inch.
According to a report by TechRadar, the price of 4.7-inch model of iPhone 6 may start at £500 ($858) for 32GB variant and £563 ($966) for the 5.5-inch variant compared to $649 for 16GB variant of iPhone 5s (unlocked). It added that the prices of both the iPhone 6 models are “based on Chinese prices, so won’t account for local taxes.”
Analysts had earlier hinted that Apple’s upcoming flagship device might come with a higher price tag considering the kind of feature upgrade it may have and screen made of sapphire crystal glass.
The Cupertino giant hasn’t uttered a word on the features of its next-generation device but several reports had claimed that it will have a 20-nanometer A8 chip (64-bit) processor under the hoods and run on the latest iOS 8. According to a report by KDB Daewoo Securities, the 4.7-inch model may have a 1920x1080p (440ppi) resolution, while the 5.5-inch variant may have a 2272×1280 (510ppi) resolution.
According to media reports, Apple may retain the 8MP camera pixel seen in iPhone 5s but with upgrades, including flash and Optical Image Stabilization. It may also come in 32/64/128 GB variants and 1GB RAM. Citing analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple Insider reported that iPhone 6 may come with features like Touch ID fingerprint security, metal casing, NFC and low temperature polysilicon in-cell touch panels. Chinese analyst Sun Chang Xu also wrote on social media that the new device will have sensors that can detect pressure, temperature and humidity.
According to G4Games (via Weibo), the 4.7-inch model of iPhone 6 will have a 2,100 mAh battery, contradicting report by Forbes (via Mobile.it168) that the smaller model of iPhone 6 may house a 1,800 mAh battery while the larger model may come with a 2,500 mAh battery.
