India is gearing up to the football craze that has already gripped our teenagers and youngsters with cricket superstars like Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni too pitching in to bid for the teams to own, while Ranbir Kapoor, John Abraham and Hrithik Roshan owning and promoting the first mega event in Indian football history.

Close on the heels of the successful closure of Pro-Kabaddi 2014 last month, Bollywood is also turning its attention to the upcoming football extravaganza that will last for 85 days starting from October 12 to December 20, just before the most-awaited Aamir Khan’s suspense thriller “PK” hits the screens.

While Sachin Tendulkar and PVP Ventures won the bidding for the Kochi franchise, Sourav Ganguly, along with a group of Indian businessmen and La Liga side Atlético Madrid, had won the bidding for the Kolkata franchise. The latest join them was MS Dhoni who had bid for Chennaiyin FC.

Not far behind, Bollywood stars John Abraham, Ranbir Kapoor, and Hrithik Roshan had won the bidding for the Guwahati, Mumbai, and Pune franchises respectively. Goa bidding was won by Videocon-Dempo& Salgaocar JV.

The Kolkata franchise, Atlético de Kolkata, announced the first head coach signing in Indian Super League history when Antonio López Habas moved in. The same team announced the first official marquee when UEFA Champions League winner Luis García signed.

The second marquee signing was 2010 World Cup winner Joan Capdevila for Guwahati’s Northeast United, while the third marquee was former Juventus striker and World Cup winner David Trezeguet who signed for FC Pune City.

Some big Indian players drafted include Subrata Pal, Syed Nabi, and Mehtab Hossain. In all, Rs. 24 crore was paid for Indian players, reports said.
