Indian Govt Bans Porn Sites Again, Asks ISPs to Block them

The Indian government has whipped its order on Internet service providers (ISPs) to block porn sites, despite many such steps failed to prove in the past, as most of them are hosted outside the country and for every blocked XXX site, two more prop up the next moment.

At a meeting chaired by IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, the issue was discussed on Wednesday and Prasad reportedly asked all the departments to step up the blocking options at the ISP level itself.

The meeting has decided to provide a list of websites via the Internet and Mobile Association of India to ISPs to block but the experts have raised the issue of heavy load on IS and internet speed saying blocking sites on such a large scale can slow down data speeds.

According to the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, there are over 40 million porn websites, mostly located outside the country. Despite the blocking, people can find them using proxies, said experts.
