India Appoints New Envoy to Pakistan

Close after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s surprise visit to Lahore to greet Pakistan PM Nawz Sharif on his birthday, India has announced the appointment of diplomat Gautam H. Bambawale as next High Commissioner of lndia to Pakistan and he is slated to take over his new responsibility soon.

Belonging to 1984 batch of Indian Foreign Service, Gautam H. Bambawale served as Ambassador of lndia to Bhutan, prior to his new assignment.

Pakistan takes centre-stage with both Prime Minister meeting in Paris on the sidelines of the Climate Change talks and taking up confidence-building measures to soothen the ties.

While both National Security Advisors recently met in Bangkok, Thailand, the positive direction took a further fillip with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj visiting Islamabad and paving the way for smooth ties between the two arch-rivals.

Capping them all, Modi on his return from Kabul, Afghanistan landed in Lahore to the surprise of hosts and many diplomatic watchers across the world about the developing thaw between the two neighbours.
