Shahid Kapoor’s latest movie, “Haider” made a decent collection at the box office, earning Rs.13.07 crore in two days but its business could have been affected by “Bang Bang” starring Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif.

The drama film based on William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” was released in 1,100 screens in India on Friday. It is the third installment of director Vishal Bhardwaj’s trilogy after Maqbool (2003) and Omkara (2006) and features Shraddha Kapoor, Tabu and Kay Kay Menon in lead roles besides Shahid Kapoor.

“Haider” collected Rs.6.14 crore on the opening day and Rs.6.93 crore on the second day, taking the total earning in two days to Rs.13.07 crore, according to tweets by Bollywood Hungama.

It may be mentioned that “Haider” opened to critical acclaims with film critics praising it in their reviews. Its earning could be taken as low compared to Rs.51.62 crore collected by “Bang Bang” in two days but the makers of the film will be happy, as it was released in just over 1000 screens in the country compared to over 4000 screens enjoyed by Hrithik Roshan starrer.

The fact is “Haider” could have done better if it was not released along with big-budget film, “Bang Bang.” However, Shahid Kapoor starrer may pick up at the box office with good word of mouth in the weekend.

The film stands in the 17th position among the top openers of 2014, with “Singham Returns” standing firm at the top after earning Rs.30 crore on the first day, followed by “Bang Bang” which earned Rs.27.54 crore. It failed to beat Shahid Kapoor’s earlier movie, “R… Rajkumar,” which collected Rs.10.2 crore on the opening day.

Set in the backdrop of insurgency-hit Jammu and Kashmir conflicts of 1995, the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), and civilian disappearances, “Haider” was screened at the 19th Busan International Film Festival. It revolves around Haider, played by Shahid Kapoor, who plots revenge against his uncle for killing his father and falling in love with his mother.
