Similar to 2013 December incident, a 23-year-old call centre employee in Bangalore was abducted in the night while waiting for a bus by three men and raped in a mini bus.
The Nirbhaya-like incident took place at 9.45pm on Saturday, when the victim was waiting at the Madiwala bus stop, near Kormangala. Though the woman screamed for help, nobody was there to help her or rescue her on the wide Madiwala Road, an important junction in Bangalore’s IT vicinity of Koramangala.
While one person drove the vehicle, the others took turns to rape her at knifepoint, moving in outskirts of Bangalore and finally dumped her at the same place in Madiwala, said reports based on the police version.
Police began investigations and the victim allegedly knew one of the attackers, but police maintained utmost silence to reveal further information to the media. Additional commissioner of police P Harishekaran reportedly said that police were close to nabbing two of the perpetrators.
It may be recalled that India’s capital New Delhi went red over the December 2012 gang-rape of a 23-year-old paramedical student by six men leading to her death shocking the entire country. Similar incident in the country’s IT capital, however, shocked the city where millions of IT and ITES workers live, working in late nights.
However, Bangalore is not new to such incidents. In 2005, similar IT employee by name Pratibha Bharati was picked up in the night by a cab driver and raped in the outskirts of JP Nagar leading to change in night-service rules for women in the city.
