The 1998 World Champions France with Didier Deschamps will look to put the horror behind them and gun for yet another world cup glory this year and their first task will be to secure 3 points in what is considered to be a relatively easy opening match against Honduras.
Honduras on the other hand is the team that has the odds stacked against them to make it beyond the group stage. The Central American outfit have impressed all over the years by qualifying for two consecutive world cups.
However, they fail to match the star studded line ups of the other big wigs and this year looks no different for them. They will look at Stoke City midfielder Wilson palacios to be their man Friday. He is the only notable star in the lineup and he will have to hold their midfield together.
France (4-3-3): Hugo Lloris; Mathieu Debuchy, Eliaquim Mangala, Laurent Koscielny, Patrice Evra; Yohan Cabaye, Paul Pogba, Blaise Matuidi; Mathieu Valbuena, Karim Benzema, Antoine Griezmann.
Honduras (4-4-2): Noel Valladares; Brayan Beckeles, Victor Bernandez, Maynor Figueroa, Emmanuel Izaguirre; Luis Garrido, Wilson Palacios, Juan Carlos Garcia, Roger Espinoza; Carlo Costly, Jerry Bengston.
Prediction: 3-0 to France
Players to watch out for:
France – Benzema has been in sublime form for Real Madrid and the pressure on him to perform increases owing to Ribery’s injury. He forms the core of their strike force and must fire to keep them on the front foot.
Honduras – Maynor Figueroa is a vastly experienced man plying his trade in the premier league. He will form the heart of their defense and must bring all his experience to stop France from running riot.
