Ever since its first mobile online sale at Flipkart in July, the Chinese maker Xiaomi is creating record and sending shockwaves to smartphone rivals on how to sell at one go and bear no advertising budget nor street shop sales.
In tow with its successful sale of Xiaomi Mi3 last month, Xiaomi has sold its latest Redmi 1S mobile phones too in a flash on Tuesday that in 3.4 seconds, lessening the time gap by few second from the previous record sale of it in 4 seconds. With all the 40,000 phones snapped up by online buyers in 3.4 second, thanks to Flipkart for the marketing strategy, Xiaomi will be eager to replicate the experiment in other emerging markets soon.
Those who did not get to access the website on time or hit buy button within those precious 3 seconds, took to twitter expressing their frustration as usual.
The Redmi 1S’s next online sale on Flipkart will be a week from now but buyers have to register now to participate for the next Tuesday sale on September 23. So far, 120,000 units have been sold online priced Rs.5,999 each. That means every Tuesday, Flipkart is selling 40,000 units worth Rs.23.99 crore in just 3.4 to 4 seconds.
In fact, the Xiaomi Redmi 1S has certain specs to make it easily compete with similar devices from big names like the Moto G or the Asus ZenFone 5. It has an HD display, a quad core Snapdragon processor and 1GB of RAM, though its OS is custom-made from Android Jelly Bean version.

While the company recently got in trouble with Taiwanese authorities over the accuracy of its sales numbers, the situation in India is different altogether. The Redmi 1S is being sold in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and plans are afoot to launch it in the Philippines and Indonesia on September 4.

Otherwise, the Redmi 1S is getting good reviews as the Moto G killer as it has has a 4.7 inch IPS display with 1280×720 pixel resolution and powered by a quad-core 1.6 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 mobile chipset. With a 1GB RAM and internal storage of 8 GB, expandable up to 64 GB.
It runs on a version of MIUI that is based on Android 4.3 Jellybean, rather an old version that is going against it. The Redmi 1S sports dual SIM, one the standard SIM and the other for nano SIM with its own batteries and own rechargers. On camera front, it sports an 8-megapixel camera with a wide f/2.2 aperture and a LED Flash. It also provides burst mode, auto-focus, zero shutter lag, HDR and real-time filters and the second camera with 1.6 megapixels is good for selfies.
The device is switchable between the ‘Light Mode’ that gives the UI the bigger icons and the other ‘Feature Mode’ with all fetures and small icons. Battery is a 2000 mAh one. The Mi Redmi 1S is fitted with a 1.6GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with Cortex-A7 core.
Mi3 Flash Sale Lessons: Last six sales of Mi3 by Xiaomi were sold in flash of moment beginning at 40 minutes on its debut on July 22, followed by similar sale online at Flipkart at 2 pm. But the second sales was over like a flash earning the company Rs. 28 crore in less than 4 seconds and the third sale was over in 2.9 seconds, followed by the fourth one in 2.3 seconds and the fifth and the sixth sale on consecutive Tuesday was also over in 2 seconds.
The entire flash sale has revolutionized the sale tactic and remains a lesson for many ad honchos for a long time, while IIMs and other business institutes will ponder the way it was done and not lagging behind many ponzi schemes will try to take leverage on creating sensation and selling the product in the future.
