Indian cricket team may see that its ace batsman Yuvraj Singh will not play the warm up match against New Zealand and Dhoni will be alone to instill confidence in the team opening the Champions Trophy series.
Indian team hopes that the combination of Dhoni and Yuvraj may turn the team emerge stronger in every match and captain Virat Kohli told the press before leaving for London, “”If given freedom, Dhoni and Yuvraj know how to bring their experience into play.
Yuvraj not only missed practice sessions but his health always raises eyebrows as he had survived cancer few years ago. If the viral fever subsides within a week, he may play against Pakistan on June 4, which the whole country will be watching. If the fever is due to his body immunity, then the player has to undergo complete tests before playing in the series.
The Board Of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said, “There are no major health concerns and he is recuperating well to the satisfaction of the medical team.”
India will play the first warm up against New Zealand today at the Oval in London.
Minus Yuvraj, the Indian team will have Virat Kohli (capt), Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wk), Hardik Pandya, Kedar Jadhav, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ajinkya Rahane.
Otherwise, the confidence levels of India should remain high as the players have participated in six weeks of IPL which gave rigorous prep timefor white ball game and vie for Champions Trophy again. Being the defending team, the pressure is further heightened for Virat Kohli’s team.
The key would be how early the players get acquainted with the conditions in the warm-up match against New Zealand and Bangladesh at the Oval on May 28 and 30. Once the team gets into the groove, runs and wins follow.
