After Shiv Sena has declared its support for the CM from Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday, BJP is all set to elect its Chief Ministerial candidate today. Devendra Fadnavis seems to be the next CM and the new government will sworn-in on October 31.
The Wankhede stadium in South Mumbai, which will witness the oath taking ceremony of the leaders, gets ready for the big day. BJP city unit chief Ashish Shelar said, "All the state leaders of BJP, along with city police, SPG personnel and government officials have visited the stadium to oversee the arrangements being done there. We are working hard to ensure that this (oath taking) ceremony turns out to be a historic programme.”
The newly-elected BJP MLAs are expected to meet at 4 pm in Mumbai today and is likely to elect Fadnavis as the new Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
Meanwhile, the cabinet members will be sworn-in on Friday. This is the first time a party event will be held in the famous cricket venue, where about 30,000 members are likely to attend the grand event. As per reports, there are four stages to be erected in the venue and also 5,000 VVIPs will be participating including dignitaries from Bollywood, corporate India, musicians, sports and politicians too.
According to reports, the security plan for the swearing-in ceremony was discussed at the stadium on Monday by the Special Protection Group, Intelligence Bureau officials, Mumbai police, local BJP MLAs, BMC and Fire Brigade officials and various state government departments.
PM Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend the ceremony and expected to address the gathering.
However, the construction of the stage will begin on Tuesday reportedly after handing it over to the Marine Drive police.
While BJP moves forward with the process of forming its first-ever government in the state, Shiv Sena has extended its support to the BJP saying they will support whoever be the next CM of the state.
On Monday, in the party’s mouth piece Saamna, the editorial said that the party would support whoever takes the leadership of Maharashtra, either Devendra Fadnavis or Nitin Gadkari. It has said the party wants the state to have ‘Shiv Rajya’ and inspirational leadership.
It had said, "We will have to keep our political differences aside and work with the BJP chief minister for the unity of Maharashtra. We have kept ourselves together even in difficult circumstances and it will be better if it remains so."
Meanwhile, as per reports, on Sunday, BJP had asked Sena to drop all conditions and demands if it wished to participate in the government.
However, no core discussions had took place between the Shiv Sena and the BJP over government formation in Maharashtra at PM Narendra Modi’s tea party for NDA MPs that held on Sunday.
