In an unprecedented campus offer ever made, Facebook found an IITian from Kharagpur institute worth Rs.1.5 crore ($250,000) a year, making it the highest ever offer, IIT-Kharagpur officials said.
The the salary package was the top among the 163 offers made by 27 companies, which have visited the campu on Monday, the first day of campus placements. While the top one was for overseas placement, in domestic placements, the maximum package offered was Rs 42 lakh, officials said.
Apart from the highest offer, maximum number of offers 24 were made by analytics firm EXL Service Pvt Ltd due to a high demand in the area by brands like Visa, Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse, Cisco, Microsoft IDC. The total offers made to its students were 251, including 88 pre-placement offers, officials said. Other companies included Parthenon, TSMC , BMGI, VISA, Baker Hughes, and Auctus Advisors.
Prof. Sudhirkumar Barai, Chairman of Career Development Center, IIT-Kharagpur, said new focus will be given to students’ personality and confidence development from now onwards with the help of corporate workshops, case study contests, alumni mentorship session, assessment tests and soft skill training.
“The preparation has shown an impressive success in terms of day one placement this year at IIT Kharagpur. Further, there has been renewed realisation in Indian industry for highly qualified engineering professionals in Quality Engineering, Product Design and Manufacturing. IIT Kharagpur has been quick to identify this need and accordingly have initiated a programme in this field,” Barai said.
