Online social networking giant Facebook is taking a shot at its rival Twitter to show the breaking news with hashtags, embedded posts and trending topics.
Unveiled last week, Facebook said it is rolling out new tools allowing news organizations to find real-time topics and posts on trending topics and integrate them into their coverage show piece.
The Keyword Insights API, aggregates all the posts that mention a keyword, say “Syria” and filter the data based on gender, age and location too, edging even the Google search.
“We are committed to building features that improve the experience of discovering and participating in conversations about things happening in the world right now, including entertainment, sports, politics and news,” Justin Osofsky of facebook said in a blogpost.
Facebook is providing the tool first to Buzzfeed, CNN, NBC’s “Today Show,” BSkyB, Slate and Mass Relevance and more partners will be included soon.
Osofsky said, “CNN’s ‘New Day’ can now easily incorporate what people on Facebook have to say about the latest, breaking news event during their show. Mass Relevance, a technology company that enables social experiences, is also leveraging these new tools in interesting ways to highlight the trends and conversations happening on Facebook for their media clients.”
