A three member delegation of the Bhutanese Election Commission led by the Chief Election Commissioner of Bhutan, Mr. Dasho KunzangWangdi, visited the Election Commission of India for enhancing bilateral cooperation. The visit concluded today.
CEC Bhutan held meetings with Chief Election Commissioner of India, Shri V.S Sampath and Election Commissioner Shri H.S Brahma, where various methods to improve and expand relations between the two Election Management bodies were discussed. Both sides discussed work placement of ECB young officers with ECI, exchange of Indo-Bhutan seminars on democracy and elections, study tours for Bhutanese officers, training of electoral officers by ECI resource persons and extension of support to an electoral resource centre in Thimpu. Mr. Wangdi complimented the Indian Commission for successful conduct of Lok Sabha elections. Shri Sampath assured his Bhutanese counterpart all possible support in elections management in Bhutan.
During the visit, the CEC of Bhutan along with other delegations visited the Parliament to witness the proceedings.
The two Election Commissions have an active MoU and Bhutanese election officials have been receiving training regularly at ECI. Bhutan also uses the Indian EVM.
Recently, three officials from Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) witnessed the Lok Sabha election through field visits and learnt the various technological tools used in election management.
