Defending Champion Chelsea Opens Premier League with a Draw Against Swansea City

Defending premier league champion Chelsea had to settle for a 2-2 draw with Swansea after goalkeeper Courtois was sent off at Stamford Bridge.

Courtois was shown red card early in the second half of the game, resulting the defending champion playing with 10 players.

Through the mid way of first half, Oscar put the hosts ahead in the 23rd minute, Andre Ayew leveled in the 29th and Chelsea’s lead was again restored when defender Federico Fernandez of Swansea scored an own goal.

Reserve keeper Asmir Begovic came on for Oscar and took over in goal after Courtois’ dismissal, but he could not prevent Gomis by slotting the ball home. Gomis later had a goal disallowed for offside as Swansea was fighting hard for a win.
