Aamir Khan-starrer ‘Dangal’ was able to make a second innings in its run for box office collections, garnering more than what it could collect in domestic market. Compared to India domestic collections of Rs.835 crore, its latest release in China grossed Rs.646 crore as of Saturday, making a solid entry into the Rs.1500-crore club with ‘Bahubali 2’.
The astonishing re-run of Dangal has made many cine pundits rewrite the history of box office in Hindi film field, first with Bahubali 2, a dubbed film in Hindi making huge foray into the nation’s box office, followed by resurrection of Aamir Khan’s Dangal in China, where it went on to smash any Hollywood film’s collections this season despite big time franchise film “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”.
Francois da Silva, overseas sales director for Arka Mediaworks (Baahubali producers) told media that their film “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” has made $220 million worldwide, without China and their next big market will be China, followed by Japan and South Korea.
Otherwise, Baahubali 2 has entered its 26th day and its record collections in 25 days have touched Rs.477.60 crore (nett in Hindi), with Monday’s collections at Rs.3.25 crore (nett) crore. Its worldwide collections in gross, excluding China and Japan, where the film is scheduled to open its cash counters next month, stands at a whopping Rs.1,550 crore.
If Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ could mint more than Rs.650 crore in China, Bahubali 2 can aim at a better figure, making it cross the Rs.2,000 crore mark. Meanwhile, Aamir Khan is busy to make his upcoming film featuring Amitabh Bachchan too, “Thugs of Hindostan” the next big challenge to Baahubali 2 success.
Meanwhile, Rajamouli may pick up on a story idea before venturing into his next magnum opus as big as Baahubali franchise. If not he may venture into making ‘Mahabharat’ his next big epic project matching the budget and prowess of Baahubali 2.
