Aamir Khan’s film ‘Dangal’ that was released in December 2016 went on to smash several records and earned more than Rs.744 crore before its release in Taiwan garnered another Rs.20 crore, while its relase in China has changed fortunes of the film, taking the total box office collections to Rs.912 crore as of now, pushing it to join the new Rs.1000-Crore Club.
China allows only 34 non-Chinese language films and 90% of them usualy go to Hollywood films. Once released in China, Dangal created massive audience of its own, trumping down even the Hollywood film of James Gunn’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2’.
In its six days of release, dangal amassed $23 million or Rs.148 crore, with the sixth day collections totaling $3.91 million compared to $3.5 million of Guardians of the Galaxy. It took 9 days for ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ to make Rs.1000 crore worldwide and it stands at Rs.1250 crore now.
Short of Rs.88 crore, Dangal has all he potential to make its entry into the Rs 1,000 crore club instead of waiting for Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan film ‘Thugs of Hindostan’ to join the club.
All Aamir Khan films #TaareZameenPar, #Ghajini, #3Idiots, #Dhoom3, #PK and now, #Dangal have topped box office collections and his success ratio during Christmas remains highest at 100%, said trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
