Dangal Box Office Collections Set to Outweigh All 2016 Bollywood Releases

Aamir Khan starrer ‘Dangal’ may not have stirred similar echo as ‘PK’ but it has collected Rs 64.60 crores in two days, making it to the top Bolywood release in the year 2016.

The film ‘Dangal, released on Friday, just ahead of Christmas holidays, collected Rs.29.78 crore on day one and Rs.34.82 on the second day, with overseas collections at Rs.28,49, pointing at about Rs.100 crore by Sunday, thanks to a holiday mood set in already.

However, going by opening day collections, Salman Khan’s ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ still tops the chart with Rs 39.32 crore, Aamir’s films in the list include ‘Dhoom 3’ on the fourth spot and ‘PK’ at the 10th. Aamir’s best opener ever remains Dhoom 3 wth Rs 32.48 crore.

Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted saying, “#Dangal is UNSTOPPABLE… Does EXTRAORDINARY biz on Day 2… Fri 29.78 cr, Sat 34.82 cr. Total: ₹ 64.60 cr. [incl Tamil and Telugu].” The overseas market is equally buoyant with Rs 28.49 crores in collections.

However, the film was never marketed like other films of Aamir Khan but still it picked up on Saturday with the word of mouth, ensuring that the film may cross Rs 100-crore mark in the first weekend itself. It has made a record advance opening on online entertainment tickets sold ever.

Taran Adarsh said Dangal is “UNSTOPPABLE” doing “EXTRAORDINARY” business on Day 2.” He listed Friday collections at Rs.29.78 cr, and Saturday collections at Rs.34.82 cr, with the total at Rs.64.60 cr including the collections from the dubbed versions in Tamil and Telugu.

More than one million tickets were booked online in advance for Dangal and about 40% more advance bookings are done on online platform for the opening week compared with other releases this year.
