For the first time in history, a finance minister sought 5-minute break due to back ache, while many instances of break due to protests on the floor of the house was seen in the past.
When it became too difficult for the 64-year-old Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, to stand continuously and give the speech, Treasury bench members suggested him to seek break from the chair. With initial hesitancy, the finance minister turned to the chair and asked if it is OK to take the break.
Equally aged Speaker of the Lok Sabha conceded the demand and said there was no problem. Fortunately, there was no pandemonium from the opposition during the break but it gave scope for the media blogs to cover all the backlog updates and return to live coverage.
