What could have been a routine cruise for British tourists in the Zambezi River that lies between Zimbabwe and Zambia turned gruesome when they saw a crocodile eating the human body with the lower part visible to them.
By the time the local police arrived after an alert, the remaining body was also eaten by the croc with just his pants floating on the river for evidence that somebody was eaten away by the giant water reptile. Soon the search for any missing man in the area proved futile and the police zeroed in on some poachers who were shot at in an ecnounter a day ago.
Bhejani Trust, a wildlife conservation group in Zimbabwe zeroed it on a group of poachers from Zambia and said it had alerted the National Parks Zimbabwe about it. In a clash that took place, one of the 13 poachers was killed and the rest fled the forest towards the water where one of them could have been caught by the crocodile for its dinner, said the trust officials.
Trevor Lane of the trust told the local media, “I suspect the man who was eaten by the crocodile was either injured during that shoot out and tried to escape through the water, or he was shot in the water, and was already dead when the crocodiles ate him.”
this is not the first such incident in Zimbabwe. Many humans fall victims to crocodiles. Last month, a 3-year-old girl who was playing on the Zambezi in Hwange was eaten away by a croc and ironicallt she was the third person in the family to be eaten live by a crocodile. Her grandfather and an uncle were the victims before her.
Another 17-year-old cattle herder was also eaten away by a croc in the Mutirikwi River in southeastern Zimbabwe while on the New Year’s day a 16-year-old girl in Runde River was eaten away, reports said.
The bizarre incident has made the British tourists nostalgic and fearing a hit on tourism, authorities have killed some crocs they identified as man-eaters in Mazonwe River in the eastern Zimbabwe, said local media.
