Bollywood is facing sullen box office this weekend as 7 films released on Friday noted a dismal beginning unless the weekend occupancy of theatres catches up to make even the earnings.
Despite a wide variety of films raning from comedy like ‘Balwinder Singh Famous Ho Gaya’ to horror film ‘3 A.M.’, besides ‘Desi Kattey’, ‘Chaarfutiya Chhokare’, ‘Mainu Ek Ladki Chahhiye’, ‘Beyond the Third Kind’ and ‘Dear v/s Bear’, the festival rush coinciding the Dussehra is not there in theatres and multiplexes but surely the weekend holidays should compensate Friday’s loss for these films.
Bollywood Hungama reported that ‘3AM’ and ‘Chaarfutiya Chhokare’ were the only 2 morning shows, but “their opening has been very bad with reports suggesting that they have opened to a measly 10%, the other releases hardly have any shows in the theatres.”
In fact, these 7 films were unable to meet the expectations together that was generated by last week’s releases ‘Khoobsurat’ and ‘Daawat-e-Ishq’, which are still holding the fort, the report said. Sonam Kapoor-starrer ‘Khoobsurat’ has minted Rs.19 crore, according unverified reports but it can still race through for another week in the event of all seven films released this week bomb at the box office.
Sonam Kapoor was given the credit for the success of the film though Fawad Khan’s action was above average in the film and the film got traction among the youth, said a report in KoiMoi.
