Kuldeep Varshnay, one of the top leader of Bharatiya Yuva Morcha, offered Rs.5 lakh for anybody who cuts off the tongue of JNUSU leader Kanhaiya Kumar, while some posters appeared in Delhi offering Rs 11 lakh to anyone who kills the JNU student leader.
Kanhaiya Kumar, who has repeatedly denied any anti-national slogans and distanced himself from Afzal Guru, said he was inspired by the Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula, the HCU student who committed suicide over campus discrimination of Dalit students.
The poster in the name of Purvanchal Sena in the name of its president Adarsh Sharma declared: “Whoever shoots JNUSU president and traitor Kanhaiya Kumar will be rewarded Rs 11 lakh from the Purvanchal Sena,” in Hindi, endangering the lives of political opponents in the name of ‘quick’ justice.
“We want the traitor dead. He has insulted mother India and raised anti-national slogans. We have faith in the court but it takes a long time for a judgement to come. We want to ensure there is a quick decision and hence, we have announced this prize money of Rs 11 lakh to be given to whosoever kills him,” he told Hindustan Times.
Another general-turned-minister VK Singh criticised Kanhaiya Kumar for calling Rohith Vemula his inspiration, saying the Dalit scholar had organised a meeting in support of Mumbai blasts convict Yakub Memon, citing some newspaper reports.
Starting assam electioneering, BJP party chief Amit Shah took on Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi for his visit to JNU, from where he had asked the ruling party to introspect first before accusing the students and shutting their voices.
Later today, kick-starting the Assam elections, Rahul Gandhi raised the JNU and Rohith Vemula issues and questioned the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to his pointed questions in Parliament.
“Modiji, in his hour-long speech, instead of giving a reply, quoted former prime ministers Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi and launched a personal attack on me,” Rahul Gandhi said.
As 5 states/Union Territories go to Assembly polls next month, the issue of Kanhaiya Kumar and Rohith Vemula have become intense.
