With the elections to Uttar Pradesh Assembly approaching BJP has been vying every section of vote bank cluster in UP but one community that would turn hostile as ever to BJP seems to be the Dalits. BJP rally with 40,000 Dalits for national president Amit Shah in Agra on Sunday turned futile and BJP finally cancelled the event citing poor weather.

BJP leaders claimed that the “inclement weather” was behind cancellation of the rally that was to coincide with the arrival of Dhamma Chetna Yatra by some pro-Modi Buddhists in the city.

The deadly combination of BJP and Dhamma Chetna Yatra forced many Dalits to stay inside homes and refuse to attend the event, especially with threats looming large on their leaders in UP. Local BJP leaders have reportedly alienated local Dalits by changing Dalit colonies into posh colonies and making Ambedkar Bhavan into a luxury hotel.

Apart from Muslims, Dalits are another cohesive voting bank that has been isolated by BJP in every state, more so in UP with their leader and BSP president Mayawati nearly heckled by BJP leaders.
