SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus ‘Baahubali 2’ will be released in more than 6500 screens on April 28, 2017, creating another record in terms of the highest number of theatres for a movie to be released anywhere in the world. According to trade analyst Ramesh Bala, “#Baahubali2 will release in 6,500 Screens in India… Highest ever for any movie in India.”
Rajamouli in his tweet said: “Very excited that #Baahubali2 will release in @IMAX format, which enhances the hugeness & the spirit of Baahubali..” Already sold for Rs.500 crore to distributors, the film’s trailer released last week created havoc on Youtube with more than 33 million views in Hindi and more than 55 million in Telugu and crossing 100 million views if all the languages and pirated or secondary versions are included.
The trailer alone has created enough income for the makers. Vamsi Atluri, the editor of the trailer, recently told IANS that the version was chosen out of 25 different cuts and the outcome is there to see for everyone. “It’s so satisfying to see this kind of response which I never imagined. More than the pressure of working on the trailer of India’s biggest motion picture, I was very anxious to know how audiences will receive it.”
The calculations of all the 6500 screens going houseful even for one week is mind-boggling. When ‘Bahubali – The Beginning’ was released on July 10 in 4200 screens, only Telugu version had witnessed 100% occupancy in theatres and other languages had recorded about 70% occupancy. Now that the sequel is riding high on its popularity and familiarity all over the country, no wonder its trailer crossed 100 million views in less than a week.
Stretching the scenario further, the movie’s earning potential has doubled with 6500 screens being roped in to show it on Friday, April 28, 2017. Besides making its distributors crorepatis overnight with Rs.100 crore in their kitty, the movie can cross . In a week’s time, when housefull screens mark its screening, the film is likely to cross Rs.500 crore by the weekend and begin its fresh earnings in the second week, running towards a whopping Rs.1000 crore in box office collections by May 30. In Hindi, filmmaker Karan Johar is releasing it via Dharma Productions, the Malayalam version will be released by Global United Media.
"Baahubali – the Beginning" earned record Rs. 60 crore on its opening day on July 10, 2015 and it remains an unbroken record still. Now that the number of screens is 6500, the opening day collections have the potential to earn up to Rs.92 crore going by the same logic of 70% occupancy in non-Telugu versions. But now that the trailer has made more than impressive views and accounted for more than 60% of views on Youtube in non-Telugu versions, the movie should collect more than Rs.100 crore on its opening day, setting a new challenge ahead for the entire Indian film industry.
Talking about the success of the trailer, in an interview with IANS, Vamsi Atluri, the editor of the trailer, revealed that this particular one was chosen out of 25 different cuts. “It’s so satisfying to see this kind of response which I never imagined. More than the pressure of working on the trailer of India’s biggest motion picture (yet), I was very anxious to know how audiences will receive it.”
"Baahubali: The Conclusion" or Baahubali 2 stars Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Sathyaraj and Tammanaah Bhatia in the lead roles and the story revolves around Mahishmati throne to which both Amarendra Bahubali and his cousin Bhalladeva would compete for, while the lady in question Devasena is likely to play crucial role.
