While the appointment of India-born Sundar Pichai is not new as he was promised elevation when he was approached by Microsoft last year before zeroing in on Satya Nadella. Ever since, the offer in the pipeline was over what kind of a company to go for a highly bloated mega entity like Google Inc and Larry Page has called the shot again.
From search giant, Google has transformed into a mega-media giant with its arms stretched into every futuristic will be a parent company of all projects, acquisitions and ventures, notwithstanding the growing legal problems in every nook and corner of the world.
Moreover, Google co-founder Larry Page, who has taken over as CEO from Eric Schmidt last time, is surprisingly relinquishing the post to Sundar Pichai, the blue-eyed boy of all in Google management. Page has taken a calculated risk to step aside but at the same time focus on new projects, instead of confining himself to Google that has reached the edge of its core business.
Nonetheless, the parent company remains more powerful leaving the future in the hands of Larry Page. “Alphabet is mostly a collection of companies. The largest of which, of course, is Google. This newer Google is a bit slimmed down, with the companies that are pretty far afield of our main Internet products contained in Alphabet instead,” said Page announcing the new company on Monday. Alphabet Inc makes separate the money-making outfit Google part from its hangs on like research and future projects, which have worried investors.
Now that Alphabet Inc is the parent company, here are the companies which come under it:
Google: It consists of the search engine, Google Adsense, Google Map, Apps Store, Youtube, Android, other tech infra.
Life Sciences: One of those ambitious projects to make a glucose-sensing contact lens.
