OnePlus 2, another attention-grabber from the competitive smartphone maker One Plus, should fill news columns for the rest of 2015 as it launches the second smartphone on Monday 27 and following it up with special launch in India on Tuesday, July 28.
However, invites this time are reserved mostly for the earliest supporters, forummembers, and early OnePlus buyers. Others can also vie for it through contests and promotion events to get invites, said the company.
OnePlus is promising a reservation list, more inventory and a “quicker rollout of shareable invites.” But the reservation list for OnePlus 2 launch was already signed up by about 30,000 people and many people have been denied registration with their e-mail with a crypt message: “Subscibe failed. The activity is so hot. Try later”.
Those unused invites will be transferred to those in the reservation list with the option to buy OnePlus2 when open for sale. “Everyone on the list will eventually receive an invite,” promises OnePlus.
After purchase online, OnePlus 2 will be shipped after 3 weeks and the invites can be shared. “The more you share, the more invites to share you get,” says OnePlus.
Priced around $450, OnePlus Two come with a fix of the heating issue seen in Snapdragon 810 SoC for the OnePlus One smartphones. The OnePlus Two comes with 4 GB LPDDR4 and 64-bit Snapdragon 810 processor.
It sports Type C-USB port that is compatible with USB 3.1, USB power delivery (USB PD), HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA with adapters. OnePlus 2 will come with a 3300mAh battery.
Packed in a full-metal body, the OnePlus 2, sans Cryogen issue, should be the hot device to sell before Apple launches its much-awaited iPhone 6S in September. With a 13MP snapper, the noise has been reduced and the new Clear Image feature, which takes 10 photos at a time, should impress many this time.
Unlike OnePlus One which faced supply crunch against demand, said it will open up more devices for sale but gradually. It may come out with more contests and invite-based sales for at least a month before shipping more. Billed as “Flagship Killer”, OnePlus Two is likely to give a tough competition to iPhone 6S on the anvil.
Based on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, its new Oxygen OS replacing the Cyanogen Mod with a few UX tweaks is expected to deliver more speed and performance. Its popular Paranoid Android custom ROM is fitted with many software features which should become talk of the twon once the device is released.
The StyleSwap covers, cancelled owing to some issues, would be back with the OnePlus Two, if there is enough supply of the covers.
