Akshay Kumar-Sonakshi Sinha starrer ‘Holiday’ released on Friday made an impressive show at the box office on Thursday in overseas market and is expected to fare better than expected on Friday, the day it was released in more than 300 screens in India.
With the morning show registering occupancy of seats at 40 percent, the matinee and evening shows picked up the momentum filling up to 70% in multiplexes. Trade expectations for the film are in the range of Rs.12 Crore in the first weekend, with a projected figure of Rs.40 crore in the first 10 days.
But in UAE-GCC market, where 54 screens were showing the film since Thursday, reported an impressive box office collections at Rs.1.34 crore.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted: “Given the merits of the film, this A.R. Murugadoss-directed film should collect impressive numbers at single screens and plexes, both.” He said the film stormed the UAE-GCC market and is the highest earner on any “Thursday Opening” even for an Akshay Kumar starrer.
Compred to Akshay’s Housefull 2 and Singh is King, Taran Adarsh tweeted that the film ‘Holiday’ collected more. On its first day in UAE-GCC with 54 screens, it was able to collect Rs1.34 crore ($226,000).
More than the storyline that is a re-make of Tamil hit film “Thuppakki”, Holiday counts on post-IPL season and the holiday season in many parts of the northern India.
