Aamir Khan-starrer ‘PK’ grossed Rs.600-Crore Barrier, Still going steady, Aamir Khan-starrer ‘PK’ is delivering the goods as expected on the lines of his previous films ‘3 Idiots’ and ‘Dhoom 3’, despite triggering rancour among Hindu activists over the depiction of religion. It has managed to cross Rs.615 crore, which is a dream barrier set forth by Shah Rukh Khan ahead of his film ‘Happy New Year’ but failed to achieve.
But it came easy for Aamir Khan’s ‘PK’ released on December 19, just before the Christmas and winter holidays. Protests or street shows, the film went on to mint money for producers not dramatically big in the beginning as was the case in HNY but slowly and steadily over the past four weeks.
As of January 12, the film grossed a total of Rs 615 crore worldwide, surpassing Aamir’s 2013 film ‘Dhoom: 3’ record at Rs.540 crore world over. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh said, “#PK crosses $ 25 million mark internationally. Total: $ 25.02 million [₹ 155.48 cr]. Overseas biz.”

According to Koimoi.com, Aamir’s PK has minted Rs.330 crore nett and Rs.155 crore in overseas market. As of the fourth Monday, PK box office collections crossed Rs.328.90 crore in the domestic market and combined with the overseas market box office collections, the film crossed the psychological barrier of Rs.600 crore for the Bollywood for the first time, breaking all the past records for any film and foraying the entire industry into thinking on par with the Hollywood e arnings for any film.
What is surprising about the film PK is that even in its fourth week, it is steadily drawing crowds. Rajesh Thadani from Multimedia Combines told IANS earlier: “‘PK’ has done extremely well. In fact, it’s the highest grosser in one week… The film is going steady at the box office and the film has not dropped even on weekdays.”
The film has kept up the tempo though it dropped slightly last weekend after the release of ‘Tevar’ but none of the new films both in the north and the south could dent the earnings of “PK”. The film’s gross collections from India stand at Rs.467 crore, while its collections from overseas markets amount to Rs.153 crore, reports said citing gross collections.
Last year, he struck gold at the box office with “Dhoom: 3”, which has earned Rs.467 crore in gross collections and with one more month left for it at screens in India, the film “PK” may well see itself crossing Rs.650 crore lifetime earnings.
Also featuring Anushka Sharma, Sanjay Dutt and Sushant Singh Rajput, the Rajkumar Hirani movie with a Rajasthani and Delhi touch is doing “outstanding business” in the region. “The film is doing extremely well in Rajasthan. The shows have been going houseful and this film is the highest grosser of the year in a week. It’s doing an outstanding business,” Sunil Bansal, a distributor from Rajasthan, told IANS recently.
