Aakash 2 or $60 tablet has been released by Datawind which had staked claim for the lowest $35 tablet last year, with the government subsidy. The company says the new tablet has already received 3 million pre-orders which will be delivered first.
The new tablet branded as Ubislate7 for commercial market on Thursday is an Android 2.3 touch screen tablet with a HD video co-processor and will provide internet access at Rs 98 per month in addition to it price tag of Rs. 2,999. Datawind has tied up with mobile service provider Aircel for voice and data (internet) services.
It supports optional 3G modems via USB, which is in addition to a micro-SD card slot that is integrated into the unit allowing pen-drives, external keyboards, web-cams, dongles and other peripherals to be attached. More Details
