Move over Shah Rukh Khan and other Khans or Khannas, here is Deepika Padukone who has made it to the top highest-paid actresses in the world, surpassing many of those from Hollywood.
The Forbes’ latest estimates show that she stands 10 among the top paid actresses in 2016 whose income includes earnings from movies, TV endorsements of all types.
Here is the list of 2016 World’s highest-paid actresses:
Jennifer Lawrence ($46 million),
Melissa McCarthy ($33 million),
Scarlett Johansson ($25 million),
Jennifer Aniston ($21 million),
Fan Bingbing ($17 million),
Charlize Theron ($16.5 million),
Amy Adams ($13.5 million),
Julia Roberts ($12 million),
Mila Kunis ($11 million) and
Deepika Padukone ($10 million).
Unlike her male counterparts in Bollywood, Padukone earns one-fifth of the fee in comparison but she compensaltes the gap with over a dozen lucrative endorsements for Indian top brands including Tanishq jewelry and Vistara, a domestic airline. Deepika will be seen in Hollywood film "xXx: The Return of Xander Cage" soon with Vin Diesel. Forbes has described the 30-year-old actress as having “scored box office gold.”
Going to the top of the list, Jennifer Lawrence has again topped the Forbes magazine list of the world’s highest-paid actress for the second year straight, with an estimated $46 million. Lawrence, 26, owes her earnings mostly to the profits from the final movie in the Hunger Games franchise, and the huge upfront fee for her forthcoming space adventure, "Passengers", said Forbes. But Lawrence’s 2016 earnings fell by 11.5% compared to her 2015 earnings which catapulted her to No.1 Highest-Paid actress last year.
Melissa McCarthy comes second with $33 million this year, up $10 million from 2015, thanks to the controversial female reboot of "Ghostbusters", said Forbes. Next comes, Scarlett Johansson of "Captain America: Civil War" in the third position with $25 million.
In all, the top 10 actresses account for a combined $205 million in earnings between June 1, 2015 and June 1, 2016, before management fees and taxes, Forbes said.
Apart from Deepika Padukone, other non-US highest paid actresses include Chinese actress Fan Bingbing and Charlize Theron, a dual citizen of South Africa and Hollywood.
Interestingly, the drop-outs in this year’s list include big names such as Sandra Bullock, Angelina Jolie, Kristen Stewart, Reese Witherspoon and Cameron Diaz. Those who nearly missed making it to the list are Kristen Wiig, Renée Zellweger and Cate Blanchett all narrowly missed the $10 million cut off.
Earnings estimates are based on data from Nielsen, Box Office Mojo and IMDB, besides field reports from interviewing the agents, managers and lawyers, said Forbes.
