The Union Public Service Commission was supposed to publish the results of the 2013 Civil Services Preliminary Exam on July 27, according to some unofficial resports but the Commission is still preparing the final list.
More than 10 lakh candidates applied for the prestigious exam held in May this year and about 10,000 will be eligible for the Mains Exam to be held in December 2013. Personality test or interviews will be held next year in May and June, 2014.
Last year, the cut-off point was 209 and this year it is likely to go up to 220 for the general candidates, as both the papers were found easy by many candidates.
The main criticism against the UPSC is that it delays the results of Preliminary results by almost 75 days after the preliminary exams, thus ruining the valuable time of the candidates, which they can otherwise utilize preparing for the Mains.
The 3-tier exam introduced in 1979 is still archaic in view of the inordinate delay in announcing the Prelims results. Ironic that the Dholpur House’s screening test is still as old as the building, when it comes to recruiting the highest cadre administrative officials of the country.
Anyway, once the results are out, candidates are advised to check them online at the official website of the UPSC — www.upsc.gov.in
