The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards 2013 held at a ceremony in the Chinese gambling haven of Macau on Saturday has chosen Barfi as the best film and its hero Ranbir Kapoor wins the best actor award while Vidya Balan for her role in Kahani won the best actress award.
“Barfi” is a romantic comedy about positive portrayal of physically disabled people, more on the lines of ‘Black’ won accolades from the jury in every category.
The four-hour extravaganza saw Madhuri Dixit, Prabhudeva, Sridevi, while Shah Rukh Khan and Shahid Kapoor co-hosted the event.
“We make musicals. I think every film is a musical. Every film has at least six to seven songs,” Ayushmann Khurrana, nominated for best actor after his debut in “Vicky Donor”, told Reuters. “So that is how Bollywood is completely different from Hollywood.”
In addition, ‘Barfi!’ bagged the best director, story and music awards and Ranbir and Deepika Padukone won best Jodi award.
’Vicky Donor’ stars Yami Gautam and Ayushmann Khurrana won the best debut award in the female and male categories and “English Vinglish’ director Gauri Shinde bagged the best debut director award.
India’s film industry is likely to touch $5 billion by 2015 and each IIFA event generates $11 million in revenue.
