Bollywood hero Shah Rukh Khan’s dream project ‘Ra-One’ is almost over with the finishing touches going on right now and it is set for release on October 26 coinciding with the festival Diwali. (See Ra-One video trailer here.)
Ra.One stands for “Random Access: Version One” as well as the mythological Ramayana character Ravana. More than special techniques and his elaborate efforts, Shah Rukh Khan is also roping in the top talent in the country and abroad including the Tamil hero Rajnikanth whose movie “Robot” made history last October with high-tech magic, typical to his character in any film.
Though Rajinikanth has not fully recovered from his ill-health, Shah Rukh got the southern star to to spare a day on Oct. 4, at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad for a scene in which SRK will be seen fighting with a gang of villains and faces another threat from a gang armed with deadly weapons.
Here, Rajini makes an entry, in his typical style and his car immediately sucks up all the weapons from the villains prompting SRK to ask Kareena, who he was. That’s when Rajinikanth steps out and gives one of his hi-style dialogues.
Apart from Rajini ‘Sir’, Sanjay Dutt and Priyanka Chopra were confirmed to make cameos. His efforts to get Jackie Chan failed but another Chinese-American actor Tom Wu played the role.
The film, similar to Jumanji / Zatoora theme, revolves around the father-son duo of Subramaniums. A father trying hard to ‘fit-in’ in his son’s badass world whereas the son is trying hard to ‘dude-up’ his dad from ‘aiiiyyyo’ to ‘Yo!’ And a mother lost in translation between her husband’s ‘ingeva’ and her son’s ‘inn’it!’
While the father Subramanium exhausts all the tricks to woo his son, get ‘dude-ified’ and ‘up his coolness quotient’, his son had given up on him. Just when the father-son duo hit a deadlock, Shekhar strikes designs one hell of a game. The momentum takes off when the family comes together, but to find themselves in the middle of a crash that drives them to a disaster. It becomes torrid when when the game that was meant to be played with, starts playing them in the game.
Shah Rukh Khan’s home production company Red Chillies Entertainment in association with Eros International is producing the film which will be released in 3D with some 3D clippings going with the current rage. Ra.One will be Bollywood’s most expensive film with more than 40 crores spent on the film already, though most of it was recouped by selling music rights to T-Series and international rights. The original Hindi film will also be released in Tamil, Telugu and for the first time in German as well.
For the first time in Hollywood, the pre-release was made eventful with video games and merchandise and comics ahead of the film’s release, with a budget of more than $3 million.
