12-member syndicate in Corby wins Euromillion jackpot

It’s not one but 12 truck drivers who won the EuroMillions jackpot on Friday 16 March.

The group of 12 formed into a syndicate and played EuroMillions every Friday for the last three years. Now their luck has smiled on them that each member will pocket about £3.16 million.

They work in the town of Corby, England. Chris Smith, one of the syndicate members said, “I always try to watch the draw show live, or record it, and check off all of our numbers. On Friday my partner checked half our numbers and I checked the other half – she just passed the winning ticket over and paused the TV on the numbers. We kept looking at it and passing it between each other about four or five times. We couldn’t really believe that they all matched!”

Soon, Chris called the lottery organiser in the UK and began the claim process and the group received the fortune a couple of days later.

The ticket has all the numbers 03, 04, 12, 23 and 50, along with the Lucky Star numbers 04 and 07. One of those main numbers – the number 50 – had previously been highlighted as being most overdue to make an appearance.

Six tickets missed out on a share of the jackpot by just one Lucky Star number, and each of those won €299,014 (£205,015) as a consolation, whilst nine tickets won €66,448 (£45,559) for matching five main numbers only. 96 tickets matched four main numbers and both Lucky Stars to win €3,115 (£2,136) each and another 1,638 tickets won €159 (£109) each by matching four main numbers and one Lucky Star. The winning Millionaire Raffle number on Friday was JHH770251.

On Tuesday’s raffle held on March 20, no winner was found for the number 15, 16, 28, 30, 46, with 3 and 4  as the lucky stars.
